Two ossuaries contain 933 French servicemen, while 2,496 others have their own graves, as do three British soldiers, one Canadian and four Russians. Created in 1914, the site is home to soldiers who fell in the fighting in the Aisne region in September-October 1914, as well as those who fell in the Second Battle of the Marne in July 1918 and in the Battle of the Ailette from May to September 1918. The cemetery was redeveloped between 1920 and 1922, and again in 1936, to accommodate the exhumed bodies of soldiers who died in 1918 during the fighting at Faverolles, Soucy, Ancienville, Montgobert, etc...
