Donjon de Septmonts

A few minutes from Soissons, in the preserved village of Septmonts, is one of the most remarkable monuments of the area. A former pleasure residence, this 14th century keep dominates the landscape from its 45 meters height. Victor Hugo, passing through the region, was captivated by the beauty of this site and described it to his wife: "Two leagues from Soissons, in a charming valley, an admirable châtelet is still perfectly habitable. It is the most striking dwelling that you can imagine". An arboretum was created in the park of the keep in 1998. It offers visitors a green setting leading them from the apple orchard in the former bishops' garden, to the vineyard which recalls the local wine heritage, passing through the aromatic plant garden. The place is ideal for spending time with the family, a picnic, a ball and that's it!
