A local committee chaired by Senator Menier was keen to perpetuate the memory of the observatory of General Mangin, commander of the Xth Army.
On November 14, 1926, a long parade of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists marched from the station yard to the Réaumont crossroads.
There, the veterans, flags flying, awaited the authorities for the ceremony: Marshal Foch, seven generals including Weygand and Gouraud, the wife and 4 children of General Mangin, who had died the previous year?

There, the veterans, flags flying, awaited the authorities for the ceremony: Marshal Foch, seven generals including Weygand and Gouraud, the wife and 4 children of General Mangin, who had died the previous year?
The procession moves on to the Fonds Houchard crossroads, from where it proceeds via the laie des Têtes Salmon to the site of the observatory memorial.
The site is still marked by the deep wounds of war: trenches, mutilated trees, collapsed shelters?
As the bugles sounded "Aux Champs", the veil fell, revealing the polished Vosges granite stele on which the observatory?s faithful image was engraved.
The inscription, hammered out by the Germans in 1941, was restored after the war.
A pilgrimage was again held on July 20, 1930, to mark the inauguration of the Vertefeuilles monument.
