Quartier Saint-Waast Saint-Médard

On foot, Walks and hikes in Soissons
Free
  • A tour that takes you to the other Soissons, on the other side of the river, and its treasure, the Saint-Médard crypt.
Founded in the 6th century, it was here in 751 that Pepin le Bref was crowned King of the Franks, giving birth to the Carolingian dynasty.
Few abbeys can boast of having housed in their crypt the tombs of two kings of France: Clotaire and Sigebert, son and grandson of Clovis.
The crypt can only be visited on Saturday afternoons with a guide.
