During the First World War, soldiers of all nationalities took shelter in the local quarries. Stuck underground for sometimes long periods of time, they left us many testimonies of their passage. Inscriptions, engravings and sculptures remind us of their name, their regiment, their love of women, their humour in spite of the war, their attachment to their horse or their pet... These fragile traces are gradually disappearing and the quarries are private and too dangerous to enter.
